Drillbotics 2027 Competition Guidelines Released

Drillbotics — International Student Competition

Put autonomous drilling to the test. The Drillbotics 2027 Competition Guidelines (PDF) are now available, and it is time to assemble your team and plan your entry.

Download the 2027 Guidelines (PDF)

Register your team

Choose Mode V (Virtual) for simulator-based control, or Mode P (Physical) to build and operate a small autonomous directional drilling rig.

2027 competition highlights

  • One virtual case: details to be announced.
  • Physical directional challenge: follow the committee-issued build–drop–hold trajectory.
  • Optional Edge AI bonus: up to 10 points, available in both modes.
  • Core team size: three to five members.

Before you register

Read the 2027 Competition Guidelines, version 1.2, dated 23 October 2026 (PDF) for the requirements, scoring, safety and reporting details. Have your university, advisor and team contact details ready, and decide whether to participate in the Edge AI bonus.

Version 1.2 update: Case selection is not required during registration; details of the single Virtual case will be announced. This edition supersedes version 1.1.

Dates and official updates

Registration deadline: to be announced by the committee. Use the latest dated guidelines PDF together with any numbered, dated committee clarifications.

For clarification, email competition@drillbotics.com. Include the guideline edition and section, quote the relevant passage and state your specific question.

Read the guidelines, assemble your team and prepare your 2027 entry.
