This is an update to the previous post. The sandstone samples for the Group B tests in 2019 were all cut from the same stone used in previous tests. The analysis follows below. Six samples were taken, three in each direction.
For the Group A tests in 2019, the samples were cut in 2019 from the same quarry. We expect the rock to be very, very similar.

Several teams asked about the rock strength of the samples being used for the directional drilling challenge. The rock comes from the same quarry as previous years. If you still have a sample of the sandstone, you essentially have the same material we ordered. Halliburton is testing a sample so that we can provide the details to all teams, and they hope to complete their testing early next week. Check this post for an update next week.
This year’s samples are being shipped to Halliburton next week, and they will distribute them as needed. Some will stay for the Houston test, one will be sent to MST since they are unable to attend the Houston event, and the rest will be sent to Celle. The two composite rock samples for the Group B teams will also be sent to Celle.
